I like to think about other people’s experience through the documents they make (photographs, marginalia, maps). In this ongoing work I am using two sets of documents in conversation with one another to think through our contemporary situation: photographs from the newspaper, and a collection of reference maps--ranging from conceptual to geographic--that rhyme in some way with the present. The newspaper and these maps both tell stories. The newspaper is literally used to construct the pieces with, while the maps are reference material. I want these times to have a place. This ongoing and continuous piece is a kind of psychogeography; an artifact made with traces other subjectivities.
