Milky Way (2014-2016)
It is impossible to replicate the light of a star, much less that of the billions of stars that make the Milky Way milky. So I keep trying—with scissors and glue—to reconstruct Barnard's atlas from the photographic contents of US history books. The light recorded in Barnard's photographs left its source thousands of years before his camera received it—at the very moment, perhaps, that some of the archaeological sites pictured in history books were living civilizations. Both the photographic archive and the night sky are records of a light that is always already old.
